|
| The
primary focus of the GEAR UP
Transitions to Success (GUTS) Network is enhancement
and restructuring of middle school programs and development
of the professional staff's awareness of ability to
respond to needs of the young adolescent, both socio-emotional
and academic. This network is unique in its particular

The Summer
Academy for 7th graders was another highlight
of the Middle School Network. |
| Teachers,
students, parents and tutors came together for three
weeks at Northside College Preparatory High School
to learning an inquiry based, technology and arts
rich environment. The feedback from all involved was
wonderful. |
 |
Several
schools have trained staff in the "Kids
at Hope" program to complement their advisory
programs with a student centered celebration of
the potential of all students and will begin implementing
this program during this school year. |
 |
Tutors
were used extensively during the Summer Academy and
have been placed in several of the GUTS Network schools. |
 |
Parents
meetings have been scheduled and many activities planned
which address such needs as GED and ESL
instruction as well as sessions on adolescent
development and college related topics. |
 |
Mentoring
through new concepts was introduced last year in one
of the middle schools and will be expanded this year. |
