The Merrill Lynch Scholarship
 
  Six students, 4 seniors and 2 juniors, from Wells Community Academy and Hyde Park Academy, were each awarded a $2000 scholarship toward tution or dormitory expenses at Chicago GEAR UP Alliance institutions.

   The Merrill Lynch Partnership Scholars Program requires:
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Teacher,counselor or principal recommendation
  • A statement of future goals from each student.
  • If Accepted - Serve as student ambassadors/mentors, working with GEAR UP middle school students for at least 50 hours.
     (The award is renewable for a second year)

The Merrill Lynch Scholars Program officially launches a scholarship fund for increasing the number of students attending college and achieving their dreams, and is aimed at students currently attending high school in communities where college going rates are low.

What is unique about this program is that Merrill Lynch is providing support beyond the scholarship monies, encouraging students as young as seventh and eigth graders to envision and prepare for college. That effort significantly deepens the impact we have in increasing the number of students going further in their education.
