Diane Schiller, founder of the "Book of the Month Club" from the Loyola/Truman Network

During the first GEAR UP Leadership Conference on November 11, 2000, Diane Schiller gave a 1-hour presentation of her "Book of the Month" Math Club. Approximately 25 teachers, administrators and parents were in attendance. Following is list of a transcript of her presentation.

The Book of the Month Club choices focuses on the NCTM standards and show how they relate to the Illinois State Learning Goals and the Chicago Academic Standards.

Each month, GEAR UP faculty present classes with a wonderful new math book and an exciting mathematics activity. Every classroom now has copies of Math Curse, Anna's Mysterious Multiplying Jar, and Sir Cumference and the Knights of the Round Table.
What's Next? Some possibilities include The Greedy Triangle; Mathematicians are People, Too; and Cool Math.
