Dear Math & Science Coordinator,

The COUNTDOWN creators continue their cutting edge approach to instruction with the integration of TECHNOLOGY on their weekly television programs this season!

Students, parents and teachers alike will benefit from live demonstrations of computer activities related to important math concepts.

On October 5th, COUNTDOWN, an interactive math program aired live every Thursday on Channel 21 at 7:30pm, launched another season of shows that turn learning opportunities into reality for all its viewers.

This year, COUNTDOWN's curriculum will focus on the new NCTM standards and show how they relate to the Illinois State Learning Goals and the Chicago Academic Standards.

COUNTDOWN, developed and produced through Loyola University's School of Education and now being offered by the Loyola/Truman Network of GEAR UP to ALL GEAR UP SCHOOLS, introduces a different math concept every week through direct instruction and reinforces each lesson with manipulative., activities and related computer instruction.

Student viewers are encouraged to call the televised phone number to participate in the show by resondlng to challenges presented by the on-air educators, three of whom are from Loryola and another who is a CPS teacher. COUNTDOWN offers 60 bonus minutes of math instruction each week and supports every show with companion worksheets which are reproduced and distributed to active programs. This web site also has the reproduction and distribution of these forms available.

COUNTDOWN is a proven math motivator. It's a learning opportunity that shouldn't be missed!!
