One of the students, a GEAR UP coach and parent advocate who attended Roosevelt University's summer GEAR UP program were back again to attend the Student Leadership Conference, held March 1, 2010. |
March 2010- Students gathered from across the GEAR UP network to explore topics in leadership. It was a school holiday, but over 100 students from 21 high schools attended. The day was packed with activity. Students explored community building and motivation for positive change. They learned strategies for developing a tangible plan for positive change in their own schools. They worked on creating a polished presentation to deliver a message. View a slide show of the event. At the end of the day, 4 groups of students put their public speaking skills to work, and presented outcomes of the day. |

The leadership conference is just one of many activities that GEAR UP provides in order to develop student leaders. Many of the students have participated in several GEAR UP supported clubs, workshops and events. In the picture above, a student from the GEAR UP summer program, along with her CPS coach and summer program parent mentor touch base again at the conference. Building on skills is an important part of the program. |
