The day offered opportunities for students to meet with some of their favorite entertainers.
Malik was one of 50 students present who won a pair of Ball'n gym shoes. Margaret Boyter-Escolona presents him with the shoes. Now a graduate of Hyde Park Academ, Malik attributes part of his success to the GEAR UP ACT prep class he took with Mr. Blackmon, a CPS GEAR UP Postsecondary Coach. He'll be going to Aurora University in the fall.

Bon Voyage for GEAR UP Seniors - Over 5000 Chicago GEAR UP seniors graduated from high school this year, and on one of the hottest days of the year, many of them came to Hanson Park to celebrate at a huge senior graduation bon voy age. The heat didn't stop the students from enjoying the celebration, which included entertainers, prizes, and performances by their own high school bands. Prizes ranged from shoes to scholarships, and school administrators were awarded plaques, donated by Awardscom, in recognition of their contributions to the success of their GEAR UP students.
