GEAR UP Summer Academy -
June 26 - July 20, 2012
GEAR UP students from the graduating classes of 2017 and 2018 are invited to participate in the GEAR UP Summer Academy! In this interactive summer enrichment program, students will explore a range of topics including engineering. Classes will be held at four GEAR UP Alliance universities: Northeastern Illinois, Roosevelt, Loyola and National Louis. All programs will have course work to help students improve their reading and math skills. In addition, each university will help students develop college and career awareness through a variety of exploratory sessions. 9:15 – 3:00, Monday - Friday.
Freshman Connection -
June 19 - July 19, 2012
GEAR UP students from the graduating class of 2016 are making the transition to high school this year. To ensure their success, they will have the opportunity to participate in GEAR UP's highly successful Freshman Connection summer program. Students who have participated in the program in the past have had a higher On-track rate their freshman year and are generally better prepared to enter high school. Classes allow students to polish math and literacy skills while getting accustomed to their new school. Classes are held at the high school, (except Roosevelt, which is closed for remodeling over the summer.)

Enjoy games, music, raffle prizes, free lunch, giveaways, "Immediate Enrollment Opportunities Fair" for those as yet undecided about where to go to college, and mingle with up to 5,000 of your closest GEAR UP classmates! 9:30 - 2:00. This event will feature youth activists from Blocks Together, the Young Women’s Action Team, MAGIC, Gender Just, the Chicago Freedom School, and the Korean Resource and Cultural Center. These young people will participate in a morning panel from 9:30 to Noon where they will discuss the campaigns that they are taking on to dismantle the school to prison pipeline. The event will be followed by lunch and a roundtable discussion where youth and adults will discuss solutions to the school push out crisis. For more information.
